Bayer Leverkusen target move for Tella to replace winger who left for Aston Villa
Published: August 15, 2023German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen are interested in signing Southampton winger Nathan Tella., according to reports in the English and German press.
The Daily Mail claims that Southampton could lose Tella in this transfer window amid interest from Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayer Leverkusen are targeting a move for the Arsenal youth product as a potential replacement for Moussa Diaby who switched to Aston Villa for a club-record fee believed to be €55 million.
Tella spent last season on loan in the Championship with Burnley, where he caught the eye with 17 goals in 39 appearances to finish as the Clarets' top scorer.
Burnley have attempted to sign the Nigerian on a permanent basis but Southampton rejected their offer.
He started as a right winger for Southampton in their first two league games of the season and already has an assist to his name.
Tella offers versatility as he is capable of playing in all three positions behind the centre-forward in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
The 24-year-old has been on the books of Southampton since 2017 and his contract expires at the end of the 2024-2025 season.
