Two sons of former Super Eagles stars named in England U16 matchday squad v Italy

Two sons of former Super Eagles players were named in the England U16 matchday squad as the Young Lions began the 2023-2024 season with a 3-1 loss to hosts Italy in an international friendly staged at Coverciano on Tuesday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

While Wolverhampton Wanderers starlet Wes Okoduwa was named in the starting lineup, Chelsea fullback Landon Emenalo watched proceedings from the bench for the entirety of the game.

Landon's father, Michael Emenalo represented the Super Eagles at the 1994 World Cup and was formerly technical director of Premier League giants Chelsea.

During Michael Emenalo's time at Stamford Bridge, he oversaw the arrivals of 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winners Victor Moses and Kenneth Omeruo, and attempted to sign ex-Nigeria U20 stars Isaac Success and Ganiu Ogungbe.

A right-back by trade, Wes is the son of former Shakhtar Donetsk and Arsenal Kyiv striker Emmanuel Okoduwa, who is credited with one appearance for the Super Eagles.

Okoduwa helped the Nigeria U23s win silver at the 2003 African Games, scoring against South Africa and Senegal in the group stage.

Landon Emenalo is yet to make his debut for Chelsea in the U18 Premier League, while Wes Okoduwa has appeared for Wolves U18s this season, coming on as a substitute for the last 23 minutes of their season opener against Blackburn Rovers.

Emenalo will be hoping to make his debut for England U16s in their second friendly against Italy on Thursday morning.
