Nephew of former Super Eagles defender helps Chelsea record first win and clean sheet under Pochettino
Published: August 25, 2023Lesley Ugochukwu, the nephew of retired Nigeria international defender Onyekachi Apam, helped Chelsea record their first win and clean sheet under manager Mauricio Pochettino on Friday night.
The former Rennes midfielder came off the bench in the 83rd minute as the Blues defeated newly promoted Luton Town 3-0 at Stamford Bridge
Raheem Sterling gave the home side the lead in the 17th minute when he produced a precise strike to beat the goalkeeper and the ball went into the bottom left corner.
The English International doubled the Blues' lead in the 68th minute with an accurate shot from Malo Gusto's pass
In the 75th minute, Nicolas Jackson who made no mistake in burying the ball in the net to seal Chelsea's victory.
Ugochukwu would come on for Jackson in the 83rd minute as Mauricio Pochettino attempted to protect his side's lead and clean sheet.
It is the second appearance that the French-Nigerian midfielder will be making this season for the London side having made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool in the first matchday of the season.
On the other hand, England Youth International Noni Madueke will have to wait for his second appearance of the season for Chelsea as he was an unused substitute in the encounter.
Anglo-Nigerian forward, Elijah Adebayo featured for Luton Town and was replaced by Jacob Brown in the 70th minute.
Lagos-born winger Chiedozie Ogbene also featured for the Premier League newcomers replacing former Manchester United player Tahith Chong.
