Former Chelsea striker names the Tottenham defender who's a better attacking outlet than Udogie
Published: September 08, 2023Former Chelsea and Celtic striker Chris Sutton has named Spanish right-back Pedro Porro as a better passer than Super Eagles-eligible defender Destiny Udogie.
The Spaniard joined Spurs from Sporting CP in the last January transfer window which was a few months after Udogie's arrival.
However, Porro made his Premier League debut for the north London club before the Italy youth international as the latter spent last season on loan with Udinese.
The duo have nailed Tottenham Hotspur's right-back and left-back positions respectively under Ange Postecoglou this season.
They have registered 3 assists between them this campaign which is a testament to their creative skills.
Sutton, while giving his verdict on the two players, identified the Spanish international as a better passer of the ball than his Italian-Nigerian counterpart.
"Don't go for Udogie. I will tell you why. If you're going to pick a Tottenham defender, in my view, Pedro Porro is your man," he told Fantasy 606 podcast via Tbrfootball.
"Positionally, he plays higher up and he's used as more of an attacking player and he has a better range of passing than Udogie, you're on the wrong horse there with Udogie,"
Udogie was called to the Italy U21 team for their 2025 European qualification matches against Latvia and Turkey but couldn't report to duty due to illness.
It remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old will be fit enough for Tottenham's Premier League encounter against Sheffield United after the International break.
