Zaragoza-born Nigerian CB scores first competitive goal for Liverpool youth team
Published: September 17, 2023Zaragoza-born Nigerian central defender Wellity Lucky scored his first competitive goal for Liverpool youth team as the U18s defeated Blackburn Rovers 4-2 in an U18 Premier League fixture on Saturday, September 16.
Joining Lucky in Liverpool's starting lineup was another player of Nigerian descent, Fola Onanuga, who began the 2023-2024 season as a first-year scholar.
Lucky netted in Liverpool U18s' 10-0 win over Southend United in a friendly on September 8 and he followed that up with a goal against Blackburn Rovers.
After Trey Nyoni opened the scoring for the visitors, Lucky doubled the advantage when he headed home from a free-kick delivered to the far post in the 33rd minute.
Lucky did well to preserve Liverpool's lead before the interval as he made a great block to deny Rovers an equalizer.
Liverpool's other scorers were Jayden Danns and Trent Kone-Doherty, while Matty Litherland and Zach Stritch got on the scoresheet for Blackburn Rovers.
Lucky netted his first competitive goal for Liverpool U18s after playing in eighteen games, comprising thirteen in the U18 Premier League, three in the U18 Premier League Cup and two in the FA Youth Cup.
