Chelsea manager Pochettino rates the performance of Ugochukwu after midfielder's full PL debut
Published: September 18, 2023Mauricio Pochettino has provided his assessment on the performance of Lesley Ugochukwu who made his full Premier League debut for Chelsea in their barren draw with Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
Before the encounter with the Cherries, the talented midfielder had made two Premier League appearances, both of which were as a substitute.
With injuries to Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia, a golden opportunity presented itself for the France youth international to make his first Premier League start at the Vitality Stadium.
In his post-match reactions, Pochettino gave a positive assessment of the performance of the Super Eagles-eligible midfielder.
"That is one of the positive things, a first start for him,'. 'He is really young and to compete at this level [the Premier League] is always difficult. But I think his performance was good" he told Chelsea's official website.
Ugochukwu made his first Premier League appearance for Chelsea against Liverpool and got his first start in the game against AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.
He has tasted just one league victory since he arrived at Stamford Bridge which was the Blues' 3-0 win over Luton Town.
The former Rennes midfielder will be hoping for better fortune when Chelsea host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on September 24.
