Shoretire's superb finish against Chelsea nominated for Manchester United's Goal of the Month
Published: January 31, 2024England youth international of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire is in contention for Manchester United's Goal of the Month award for January 2024.
Shoretire has been nominated for his superb finish in a Premier League 2 fixture against Chelsea at Kingsmeadow on January 12.
Trailing by two goals, the Manchester United development squad captain halved the deficit in the 54th minute when he scooped home past Merrick in the Chelsea net.
Shoretire thought he had snatched a point for the Red Devils when he notched his second of the evening but Nigerian winger Tyrique George curled the ball into the net in stoppage time to ensure three points for Chelsea.
The talented teenager is having a brilliant season with his double against Chelsea taking his tally for the season to nine goals in twelve appearances for United U21s..
Nine other goals have been nominated for Manchester United's Goal of the Month including strikes from the Men's, Women's and U21 teams.
Joining Shoretire on the shortlist are: Diogo Dalot, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Ella Toone, Hayley Ladd, Sam Mather (2) and Bruno Fernandes.
This is the third consecutive month Shoretire is up for the Goal of the Month as he was nominated for the November and December prize but was beaten to the award by Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund respectively.
