Talented winger George double-nominated for Chelsea's Goal of the Month for January
Published: February 01, 2024Talented Nigeria-eligible winger Tyrique George is in the running for Chelsea's Goal of the Month award for January 2024.
This is the fourth consecutive month that the England youth international has been nominated for the monthly accolade as he was also shortlisted for the award in October, November and December.
George missed out on the awards with Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer taking the honour for October, November and December respectively.
This time around, he stands a better chance of winning the Goal of the Month as he has been double-nominated for his strikes against Everton in the FA Youth Cup and Manchester United in the Premier League 2.
Against the Toffees on January 21, George netted the clincher in the 62nd minute when he received the ball on the half-turn, spun a defender before firing home via the post with a ruthless finish.
His fierce drive into the top corner that proved to be the game-winning goal against the Red Devils on January 12 has also made the shortlist.
To win the award for the first time in his Chelsea career, George faces competition from first team players Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling, Women's forwards Lauren James and Mia Fishel, and development squad star Frankie Runham,
George, who has been invited to train with the first team this season, has scored thirteen goals in all competitions.
