1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning striker Daniel Amokachi namechecked the Super Eagles' starting front three Victor Osimhen, Emmanuel Dennis and Ademola Lookman as the players that contributed to Nigeria earning a penalty in their disappointing 1-1 draw with the Black Stars of Ghana on Tuesday evening.
There were big appeals from the Nigeria supporters at the MKO Abiola Stadium after Lookman went down in the area in the nineteenth minute and initially play continued before VAR advised referee Sadok Selmi to look at the incident in the designated Referee Review Area.
Nigeria were handed a lifeline to equalise when the Tunisian official pointed to the spot despite protests from the Ghanaian players including Thomas Partey.
"Now you have Lookman getting the ball from the side, you have Dennis bulldozing from the side when he has the ball, he does what he wants. You have Osimhen taking the ball behind the defensive line," Amokachi said on SuperSport.
"I think that contributed towards the penalty that you were just talking about".
Amokachi claimed that he wasn't surprised to see William Troost-Ekong step up for penalty duties even though the likes of Osimhen, Joe Aribo and Lookman were on the pitch.
"Definitely not me. We have a lot of crowd in the green room who were shouting, 'why is he?'. I know he has kicked a couple of penalties by himself and he scored.
"For him to stand up in a key game like this, the leadership that he possesses even if the goalkeeper dived towards the ball, the ball was a bit hard."
Amokachi was a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 1994 World Cup, scoring two goals in the group stage against Bulgaria and Greece.
