'A pity that he didn't score' - Former Chelsea captain reacts to Akor Adams' miss against Real Betis

Former Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta praised forward Akor Adams despite the striker's late missed opportunity in Sevilla's 2-2 draw against Real Betis.

Adams, who has been in sensational form this season, came close to giving the visitors the lead in the final minutes of the derby but was denied.

Despite the miss, Azpilicueta lauded Adams for his physical presence, goal-scoring ability, and tireless work rate throughout the match.

"Very important. He is very physical, can score goals, and make movements," Azpilicueta told Sporty TV during his post-match reaction.

"It is a pity that he didn't score because he deserves that after his games, running from the first minutes to the end, it's not easy."

The Sevilla defender, however, expressed confidence that Akor will soon find the back of the net.

"He did a very good job. Him, Alexis, and Isaac, the three strikers that played today, they worked so hard for the team," Azpilicueta  added.

"They score two of them and nearly the third. So, it is a pity for Akor but I hope he feels proud of his effort and I'm sure the goals will come sooner than later."

The Nigeria international has struggled to find the back of the net in recent league action, failing to score in his last five matches against Mallorca, Girona, Deportivo Alavés, Getafe, and Real Betis.

Akor Adams, who last scored in Sevilla's 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao in January, has tallied six goals and three assists across 21 league appearances this season.

As Sevilla prepare to face Rayo Vallecano, Adams will be eager to rediscover his scoring touch and help his side get back to winning ways.
