Valencia CF head coach Carlos Corberán has hinted at the possibility of using a two-striker system involving Umar Sadiq and Hugo Duro ahead of the clash against Atletico Madrid.
Sadiq, who arrived at the Mestalla during the winter transfer window, has rediscovered his scoring touch in recent weeks, finding the net in successive matches against Mallorca and Girona.
His resurgence has sparked calls for him to be handed a regular starting role, particularly given his growing influence in attack.
Despite Sadiq’s strong performances, there have been growing calls for the manager to hand Hugo Duro a starting role, given his consistent form in front of goal.
Duro has also impressed this season, registering nine goals in 31 league appearances as Valencia continue their fight to avoid relegation.
Speaking about the possibility of pairing the two forwards, Corberán pointed to a previous example against Atletico Madrid, where the combination proved effective.
"Last year, when we played against Atletico Madrid at home, they both played together, and I liked it," Corberán said during his press conference. "It all depends on what the game needs at any given moment."
The Spanish tactician explained that while he appreciated how Sadiq and Duro complemented each other in that encounter, his decision to use them together would ultimately depend on the demands of each match.
"Having two pure strikers is interesting when the team are putting a lot of pressure on the opposition. It's important sometimes to use players who help with the build-up play and the attack," he added.
Corberán noted that fielding two natural strikers can be particularly useful when Valencia are looking to apply sustained pressure on their opponents.
However, he also emphasised the importance of balance, highlighting the need for players who can contribute to both build-up play and attacking transitions.
"Lucas Beltrán is a number 9.5; he's closer to the attacking midfield position. Sadiq and Hugo are different from Lucas. We have alternatives," he said.
Ahead of the clash with Atletico Madrid, Sadiq will be eager to build on his impressive form while continuing to adapt to different tactical demands and playing styles.
