Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is set for a long-awaited return to action after being named in Lazio's traveling squad for Saturday's Serie A showdown against AC Milan at the San Siro.
The 24-year-old has been sidelined since late September after suffering a hamstring injury during Lazio's 1–0 defeat to AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
Dele-Bashiru, who started the derby encounter, was forced off in the first half, with Reda Belahyane coming on in his place.
Due to the ailment, the Manchester City academy graduate missed twelve matches for both club and country, including eight in Serie A and four in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
However, his inclusion in the squad to face Milan signals a major step in his recovery and a timely boost for both club and country.
Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has listed Dele-Bashiru among a five-man midfield unit, which also includes Belahyane, Mattéo Guendouzi, and Matías Vecino.
Though it remains unclear whether he will start or come on from the bench, his availability provides added depth as Lazio look to strengthen their league form.
Beyond club matters, Dele-Bashiru's return comes as a significant positive development for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who is set to announce his provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
With the Super Eagles eager to bounce back from their failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Dele-Bashiru's fitness will be crucial as the team aims for a strong AFCON campaign.
Nigeria will enter the AFCON tournament determined to reclaim continental glory after finishing runner-ups in the previous edition.
