Eric Chelle addresses contract concerns, shifts focus to scouting NPFL players and Unity Cup

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has confirmed that financial issues remain part of his ongoing contract discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), while emphasizing that his primary focus is on managing the national team.

The development was disclosed by Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, who relayed Chelle’s remarks regarding the situation.

According to Obayiuwana, the coach acknowledged that certain financial aspects of his agreement with the federation are yet to be resolved but made it clear that he is not directly involved in those negotiations.

Providing further context to the situation, Obayiuwana reported that Chelle acknowledged there are still pending financial matters requiring attention in his contract discussions with the federation, while making it clear that he is not directly involved in the process.

The former MC Oran coach emphasized that his priority remains on his responsibilities with the team, stating that “Yes, there are financial issues to be discussed and resolved. But I leave them to my agent to handle with the federation. I want to concentrate on the job and the task at hand.”

Despite the unresolved contractual elements, Chelle has already outlined his immediate plans for the Super Eagles as preparations intensify for upcoming engagements.

The Malian tactician confirmed that he will travel to Nigeria to monitor domestic football, with particular attention on players competing in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Expanding on his plans, Chelle noted that his visit will involve attending league matches and assessing potential additions to the national team, stating that “I am coming to Nigeria to watch some NPFL games and see some players. And we have the Unity Cup in London to prepare for,” indicating a clear intention to broaden the team’s talent pool while simultaneously gearing up for the upcoming tournament.

The Unity Cup is expected to serve as a key preparatory tournament for the Super Eagles, offering an opportunity for player evaluation and tactical adjustments ahead of future competitive fixtures.

Away from match preparations, Chelle has also been focused on maintaining his professional qualifications.

In recent weeks, he has been in France undergoing coaching recertification courses to ensure his credentials remain up to date.
