Newcastle United forward William Osula is leaning towards representing his country of birth Denmark rather than Nigeria at senior level, based on his previous statements.
The Nigeria Football Federation are now involved in a recruitment battle with the Danish Football Association for the services of the Sheffield United academy graduate.
The Aarhus native qualifies to represent the Super Eagles through his Nigerian father.
Osula also has the option of representing England's Three Lions, having lived in the country for the past decade.
The Newcastle United attacker describes himself as a direct forward, capable of dribbling, finishing, and offering a strong physical presence.
Speaking to Danish sports magazine Tipsbladet in 2022, Osula suggested that his international future lies with Denmark.
"And hopefully one day I can also play for a national team," says William Osula, proudly pulling the Denmark national team jersey over his head.
"I feel at home in Denmark. I lived there, was born in Denmark and raised in Copenhagen. It's great to represent Denmark, which is a big part of me."
The Nigeria Football Federation have five months to convince Osula to switch his international allegiance to the three-time African champions, with Denmark not scheduled to play a competitive fixture until September 24, 2026, when they face Norway in the UEFA Nations League.
