'There is nothing to worry about' - Ag. CAF Sec-Gen assures everything is on track for Afcon 2027

Acting Secretary-General of the Confederation of African Football, Samson Adamu, has insisted that preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations are on schedule, with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania set to co-host the tournament.

The 2027 edition will mark a return of the competition to East Africa, the first since Ethiopia hosted the tournament in 1976.

It will also be the first time in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations that three countries jointly stage the finals, representing a landmark moment for CAF.

Despite concerns over whether the required infrastructure across the three host nations will be ready in time, Adamu has moved to allay fears, maintaining that preparations are progressing smoothly ahead of the tournament.

Speaking to SuperSport's Soccer Africa programme, as monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, he expressed confidence in the readiness of the hosts.

"There is nothing to worry about. Everything is on track for Afcon2027. We are going to have an exciting, amazing and one of the best competitions in 2027," Adamu said.

"Having three countries coming together, the commitment from the three countries, it is the first time CAF is doing it.

"It is also historical for us at CAF to make sure that this is successful and it shows the unity and pride of East Africa itself.

"It is not just a country competition; it is for the entire region, and East Africa is unique in itself.

"It is very different from Ivory Coast; it is very different from the last Afcon we had in Morocco."

The most recent editions of the tournament have been staged across different regions of the continent, including Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Morocco.

Adamu highlighted that the tournament's rotation across regions reflects CAF's broader vision for inclusivity and continental representation.

"It is important for CAF because we went from Central Africa with Cameroon, we went to West Africa, North Africa, and now we are in Eastern Africa to organise the competition.

"We have everything necessary to make sure the competition is successful, that I can guarantee."

A total of 28 teams will compete at Afcon 2027, including automatically qualified hosts Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
