NFF, Esperance, Besiktas and Sivasspor pay tribute to Eneramo as ex-striker dies aged 40

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), alongside Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis and Turkish sides Beşiktaş J.K. and Sivasspor, have paid heartfelt tributes to former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo following his death at the age of 40.

Eneramo, who was born in Kaduna, enjoyed a distinguished professional career across Africa and Europe, earning admiration for his physical presence, work rate, and eye for goal. 

His passing was confirmed on Friday, prompting an outpouring of condolences from football bodies and former clubs he represented during his career.

In a message shared via social media, the NFF expressed sorrow over the loss of the ex-international. 

Turkish club Beşiktaş also mourned the former striker, stating: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Eneramo. We extend our condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Michael."

Similarly, Sivasspor paid tribute to their former player, highlighting his commitment during his time at the club. 

"We have learned with deep sadness of the passing of our former footballer, Michael Eneramo."

"He will always be remembered for his dedication and effort while wearing our red-and-white jersey.

"We pray for mercy upon our late player and extend our condolences to his family and loved ones."

In Tunisia, Espérance Sportive de Tunis delivered one of the most emotional tributes, describing Eneramo as one of the club’s “most loyal sons.” 

In an extensive statement, the club praised his impact both on and off the pitch, recalling his decisive goals and lasting legacy among supporters.

"With deep sorrow and grief, Espérance Sportive de Tunis bids farewell to one of its most loyal sons, Michael Eneramo."

"With hearts filled with pain, Espérance mourns its former Nigerian player, Michael Eneramo, who has passed away after an exceptional career that will remain etched in the memory of the club and its fans for generations to come."

"Eneramo was not just a player in the club’s history; he was a symbol of strength, determination, and resilience—one of the figures who created unforgettable moments on the pitch and proudly raised the club’s banner in historic football milestones.

"He shared great moments of joy with the fans, scoring decisive goals that are still remembered to this day. His name remains associated with a fighting spirit and a true sense of belonging to the club’s colors.

"As Espérance Sportive de Tunis bids farewell today to one of its own, it extends its sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased, his loved ones, and all who knew him and shared in his sporting and personal journey, praying that God grants them patience and strength in this difficult time.

"Michael Eneramo will forever remain a part of Espérance’s history and in the hearts of its supporters, who will never forget his dedication and commitment on the pitch."

At international level, Eneramo earned 10 caps for Nigeria, scoring three goals.

He made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2009 and netted his first international goal against Republic of Ireland.
