'All departments' - Ndidi admits Super Eagles must improve ahead of Afcon round of 16 clash

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has revealed that Nigeria is leaving past disappointments behind and concentrating fully on the present after a 3‑1 victory over Uganda in their final Africa Cup of Nations Group C match at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Tuesday.

Opening up on the team’s mindset, Ndidi told reporters in the mixed zone: “We're not thinking of what happened in 2021. It's gone. We're not thinking about this game now.”

His comments reflect the squad’s determination to move on from their Round of 16 exit at the 2021 AFCON, when Nigeria were eliminated by Tunisia.

Ndidi stressed the importance of taking the tournament one step at a time, focusing on each match as it comes.

“We're thinking about the next game. So, which is more important? So, game after game game after game game after game,” he said, highlighting the team’s disciplined, match-by-match approach.

When asked where the team needs improvement, Ndidi offered a candid and broad assessment. “All departments. Yeah,” he said, indicating that the squad recognizes the need for collective improvement across every area of play as they prepare for the knockout stages.

The victory over Uganda completed a flawless group-stage campaign for Nigeria, ensuring nine points and top spot in Group C.

The Super Eagles now advance to the Round of 16 with momentum firmly on their side, ready to face their next opponent.
