Arsenal alum of Nigerian descent agrees three-year deal with Southampton

National World Publishing reporter Chris Wheatley has provided an update on Zach Awe's imminent move to Championship club Southampton.

Wheatley, who worked at Nottingham Forest last season, is reporting that the Arsenal alum has agreed a three-year deal with Southampton, adding that the Gunners will receive a solidarity payment for the central defender.

Awe was offered a new deal to extend his stay at Arsenal but opted to embark on a new chapter in his career.

The 19-year-old snubbed a new contract in favour of joining the Saints as he wants to play first team football. rather than turning out in the Premier League 2 for Arsenal's development squad.

With the likes of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Ben White and Rob Holding ahead of Awe in the pecking of central defenders at the Emirates Stadium, it would have been difficult for him to break into the first team in the forthcoming season.

Awe has an impressive range of passing, has leadership qualities and also offers versatility as he is capable of playing as a central defender, defensive midfielder and right-back.

He faced Football League opposition during his time at Arsenal, making appearances against Wigan Athletic, Cambridge United, Ipswich Town, Northampton and Stevenage in the Papa Johns Trophy.
