Bobby Adekanye could bid farewell to Premier League side Liverpool at the end of the 2018-2019 season as he is stalling on signing a new deal which he has been offered.
Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi was understandably careful to choose his words when he was questioned about the contract standoff between the winger and the Anfield club.
Adekanye has represented the Netherlands at U16 and U17 level but has been in the international wilderness for more than three years, and it can be inferred that the former Barcelona wonderkid is willing to switch allegiance to Nigeria's youth teams if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation, based on Awoniyi's statement.
''I know Bobby very well, we train together on many occasions. I know how good he is and to be honest he knows he's a Nigerian,'' Awoniyi told Biodun of I-Reports.
''He always proves he is a Nigerian and I know he has the love for Nigeria.''
He continued: ''When it comes to decision, advice on his contract, I am a player also and I'm still trying to be the best I can. I think he has an agent and both will know what they want for themselves.
''As a player I cannot decide for him if he'll stay or remain. It's left for him and his agent.''
Lazio were earlier thought to be front-runners for the signature of Adekanye, only for the Italian club to deny reaching an agreement with the Liverpool U23 star.
