Chidera Ejuke: Sevilla monitoring fitness of Super Eagles forward before Barcelona clash

Sevilla winger Chidera Ejuke did not participate in full training on Wednesday afternoon after experiencing slight discomfort, raising concerns about his availability for the club's upcoming La Liga clash against Barcelona on Sunday.

According to Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo, the Nigeria international did not take part in portions of the training session with the main squad.

Instead, he carried out specific individual exercises as part of a precautionary approach by the Sevilla medical staff.

Despite the temporary setback, Ejuke is still expected to be available for the trip to Camp Nou, with the club continuing to monitor his condition in the coming days.

The 28-year-old has endured a challenging campaign with Sevilla, struggling to consistently influence matches.

Across all competitions this season, Ejuke has registered just one goal and one assist in 22 appearances.

However, he proved decisive when Sevilla last faced Barcelona earlier in the season.

During the first leg at the Ramón Pizjuán Stadium in October 2025, Ejuke came off the bench in the second half and played a key role in the hosts' 4–1 victory.

The winger set up fellow Nigerian international Akor Adams for one of the goals, helping Sevilla secure an emphatic win in front of their home supporters.

Despite his struggle, Ejuke was part of the Nigeria squad that competed at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, helping the Super Eagles finish third in the tournament after defeating Egypt in the third-place playoff.

With Sevilla preparing for a demanding fixture against Barcelona, Ejuke will be eager to regain full fitness and make himself available for selection.

The winger will also be looking ahead to Nigeria's upcoming international friendly against Jordan later in March.
