Super Eagles defender Jordan Torunarigha reportedly sustained a minor ankle injury during Hamburg’s 1-1 draw against Cologne, according to German outlet Ligainsider.
Torunarigha, who joined the Bundesliga side last summer, started the encounter at the Volksparkstadion and delivered a solid performance before being forced off in the 80th minute.
The Nigeria international was replaced by Libyan defender Daniel Elfadli shortly after appearing to suffer an ankle or shin knock during the closing stages of the match.
The development could be a source of concern for Hamburg manager Merlin Polzin as the club enters the decisive phase of the season while battling to steer clear of relegation.
Torunarigha has been one of the team’s most reliable performers since his arrival, providing defensive stability and leadership that has earned the admiration of supporters.
The 28-year-old has featured in 20 matches across all competitions this season and has been booked only three times, highlighting his disciplined and composed defensive style.
With a crucial league clash against Borussia Dortmund looming at the Signal Iduna Park, Polzin will be hoping the Nigerian defender recovers quickly and can return to contention for selection.
