Confirmed : Released Liverpool winger of Nigerian descent joins Cardiff City

Through their official website, Championship outfit Cardiff City have announced the signing of Anglo-Nigerian winger Sheyi Ojo.

Ojo has joined the Bluebirds on a free transfer, subject to international clearance, following his release by Premier League side Liverpool upon the expiry of his contract on June 30, 2022.

The 2017 U20 World Cup winner with the Young Lions has returned to Cardiff City for a second spell, having spent the 2020-2021 campaign on loan at the club.

In 41 appearances in a Cardiff City shirt, he was involved in twelve goals (5 goals, 7 assists).

Ojo's contract with Cardiff City will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2023-2024 season.

Speaking after the move was confirmed, he said : "I really enjoyed myself last time I was here, and I’ve got some unfinished business to do. I’m really looking forward to the season, and I hope we can do some special things.

"I didn’t actually get to see the fans last time I was here, so I’m really looking forward to that. The one thing that was missing last time was the fans, so I’m excited for the first game."

Apart from Cardiff City, Ojo previously represented Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham and Millwall in the Championship.

The winger was a Liverpool player for eleven years, making thirteen appearances for the Reds in all competitions and directly participated in five goals.

He also enjoyed loan spells at Glasgow Rangers and French side Reims while on the books of Liverpool.
