Seven-time Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság I champions Debreceni VSC have officially announced the signing of Super Eagles striker Stephen Odey.
Odey joins Debreceni VSC as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Danish Superliga side Randers FC.
The 28-year-old wore the colours of Nigerian club Mountain of Fire before moving to Europe to join FC Zürich, where he scored 17 goals in 61 appearances across all competitions.
His performances at FC Zürich earned him a transfer to Belgian side Racing Genk.
During his three-year tenure at Genk, Odey enjoyed loan spells at Amiens SC and Randers, before eventually securing a permanent move to the Danish club after an impressive loan stint.
Over four and a half years at Randers, he netted 28 goals and contributed six assists.
Odey’s honours include winning the Swiss Cup with FC Zürich and being named winner of the Danish Superliga Goal of the Week in round fourteen of the 2021–22 season.
Debreceni VSC have a notable history of Nigerian players, with Derick Ogbu, Hamzat Ojediran, Dudu Omagbemi, Peter Olawale and Eugène Salami representing the club in the past.
Currently, Debreceni VSC sit third in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I table, amassing 39 points from 23 matches in the Hungarian top-flight.
