Two Nigerian players have been named in the EFL Team of the Season lineups, with Millwall winger Femi Azeez included in the Championship Best XI, while Bromley centre-back Omar Sowunmi earned a place in the League Two Team of the Season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Azeez and Sowunmi were both named in the Team of the Season lineups at the EFL Awards ceremony in London on Sunday evening.
The defender and forward had been in the running for League Two and Championship Player of the Season respectively but missed out on the award to Swindon Town's Aaron Drinan and Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney.
Another Nigerian player, Notts County's Tom Iorpenda, also missed out an individual award, with Walsall's Daniel Kanu clinching the League Two Young Player of the Season honour.
Sowunmi caught the eye as Bromely achieved promotion to League One for the first time ever, scoring six goals and registering an assist in 38 matches.
Azeez has directly participated in sixteen goals from 32 Championship games this term, scoring eight goals while producing eight assists.
Ademola Lookman claimed the Championship Apprentice Award in 2016 at Charlton Athletic, Deji Elerewe won the League One Apprentice Award in 2022, and former Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom was named Championship Player of the Season in 2023.
