Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho made his long-awaited return for Celtic in their disappointing 4-1 home defeat to VfB Stuttgart in the Europa League on Thursday.
Iheanacho was introduced as a second-half substitute in the 71st minute, marking his first appearance since February 1, when he also came off the bench against Falkirk.
The Nigerian striker had been sidelined with fitness issues, missing Celtic’s league matches against Livingston and Kilmarnock since the start of February.
His comeback, however, was unable to inspire the Scottish side as Stuttgart ran out comfortable winners in the first leg of their Europa League playoff tie.
Stuttgart defeated Celtic 4–1, with Bilal El Khannouss opening the scoring in the 15th minute before Benjamin Nygren equalised for Celtic six minutes later.
Stuttgart regained control as El Khannouss headed in Angelo Stiller’s cross in the 28th minute.
Jamie Leweling added a goal in the 57th minute, before Tiago Tomas sealed the 4-1 win with a composed finish.
Iheanacho joined Celtic last summer as a free agent, bringing experience from his time at Manchester City.
Injuries, however, have disrupted his first season in Scottish football, restricting him to just five league appearances.
Iheanacho's return provides hope for Celtic supporters eager to see him regain form and contribute fully in the coming weeks.
