Former England international of Nigerian descent Gabby Agbonlahor is tipping Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn to play the Victor Moses role in Antonio Conte's trademark 3-5-2 formation.
Tottenham confirmed the appointment of Conte as their new head coach this week and it's the second time the Italian will be in charge of a Premier League club, having coached Chelsea between 2016 and 2018 during which he won the Premier League and FA Cup.
In his maiden season in England, Conte switched to a back three after a loss to Arsenal and converted Moses into a right wing-back while Marcos Alonso was deployed as a left wing-back.
The former Nigeria international was one of the most consistent performers for Chelsea in 2016-2017, making 40 appearances in all competitions and directly participated in eight goals.
Agbonlahor thinks Conte can revitalize the career of Bergwijn just as Moses benefited from his appointment at Chelsea.
"It wouldn’t surprise me, although some would see it that way, if he does what he did with Victor Moses and plays Steven Bergwijn at right wing-back. You never know," Agbonlahor said to Football Insider.
"It’s going to be good for Spurs and I think he’ll get the best out of the players he’s got.
"Lucas Moura can play as a number 10 so he’ll be ok. But Steven Bergwijn is only ever going to play as a wing-back."
Moses fell out of favour after Conte was relieved of his duties at Chelsea, leading to loan spells at Fenerbahce and Inter Milan before a permanent switch to Spartak Moscow.
