Ex-Nigeria U23 Striker Sadiq Back On The Scoresheet For Almeria

Former Nigeria U23 international Umar Sadiq returned to scoring ways as UD Almeria registered a 2-1 victory against an in-form Mirandes side at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos on Saturday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

The summer signing from Partizan Belgrade was going through a dry patch in front of goal prior to yesterday's meeting having failed to find the back of the net since October 21.

But manager Jose Gomes kept his faith in the striker, naming him in the starting lineup for five of the next six matchdays and he finally delivered with a match-winning strike against Mirandes.

In the 14th minute, Sadiq was unlucky not to open the scoring as his close range strike cannoned off the crossbar and from the rebound goalkeeper Raúl Lizoáin made a fine save to deny the number 9.

Fran Villalba on 17 minutes opened the scoring for the Rojiblancos before Pablo Martínez equalised for the visitors three minutes before half time.

In the first minute of first half stoppage time, Sadiq scored what proved to be the winning goal after the ball was put on a plate for him in the box by José Corpas.

In the provisional LaLiga Smartbank standings, Almeria, who are undefeated in seven matches, are fifth with 20 points accumulated.
