Olympique de Marseille head coach Habib Beye has hinted that Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi could be handed his first start for the club when they face Nice on Sunday, despite the his limited game time since arriving in February.
The Nigerian International joined the French side from Zulte Waregem during the winter transfer window but has struggled to break into the squad, making just four appearances totaling 34 minutes.
Meanwhile, Nnadi’s chances of earning a starting role have been boosted by injury concerns within the squad, with Geoffrey Kondogbia and Bilal Nadir both ruled out of the encounter.
The 22-year-old, who recently returned to full training after recovering from a knee injury that sidelined him for the 2-0 defeat to Lorient, is now firmly in contention to feature at the Stade Vélodrome.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Beye praised the midfielder’s qualities and suggested a final decision would be made after assessing him in training.
"He is a high-performing player who brings a different profile in his characteristics. He is in contention to start on Sunday," Beye was quoted as saying by Telle Men Foot.
"We will make a choice after the last two training sessions. He is in good shape, he is coming back from a knee injury and is showing very good sensations today ."
With competition for places easing due to injuries, Nnadi will be eager to seize the opportunity and make a strong impression as he looks to establish himself in Marseille’s midfield and justify his move to the Ligue 1 club.
