There will be Nigerian representation in the final of the 2025 Fifa U17 World Cup on November 27 at the Khalifa International Stadium , following Austria's 2-0 victory over Italy in the semi-finals of the competition, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Highly-rated centre-back of Nigerian descent, Ifeanyi Ndukwe, is expected to be available for selection for Thursday's showpiece after missing the semifinal against Italy due to accumulated bookings.
This marks the first time an Austrian team, at any age level, has reached a World Cup final.
From a Nigerian standpoint, the spotlight will not fall solely on Ndukwe, who has been the standout player in an Austrian defence that has recorded six clean sheets in seven matches during the tournament in Qatar.
Attention is instead firmly on Red Bull Salzburg’s teenage sensation, Johannes Moser, who increased his tally in the competition to eight goals after netting a brace against Italy.
With the exception of the group-stage fixture against New Zealand, Moser has scored in every match he has played at the 2025 Fifa U17 World Cup.
In Thursday’s final, the 17-year-old needs just two more goals to equal Victor Osimhen's record for the most goals scored in a single Fifa U17 World Cup tournament, and a hat-trick would see him claim the record outright.
Osimhen set the benchmark a decade ago, scoring ten goals at the 2015 edition in Chile.
Only two players Phil Foden (England) and Sergio Gómez (Spain) have ever scored more than once in a Fifa U17 World Cup final.
