Former Nigeria U23 invitee almost gets a goal on unofficial debut for Scottish giants Celtic

Nine days after his signing was confirmed by Glasgow Celtic, former Nigeria U23 invitee Osaze Urhoghide made his unofficial debut for the Scottish giants as they defeated Charlton Athletic 2-1 in their second pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon.

Just as allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported three days ago, young Nigerian center back Deji Elerewe traveled with the Addicks first team to Wales and made his starting debut for the League One club, playing the entirety of the first half.

The 17-year-old Elerewe prevented Celtic from extending their lead in the first half by making two goal-saving clearances.

In his second pre-season game as Celtic manager, Ange Postecoglou selected his new signing Urhoghide in the second XI for the fixture at Dragon Park in Newport, Wales.

The Netherlands-born defender was deployed in a right-back position after coming off the bench.

Urhoghide, who turned 21 at the start of this week, looked sharp in forty-five minutes of action and almost got a goal when the ball fell kindly for him but Charlton goalkeeper made a save to deny him his first goal in Celtic colours.

In a game dominated by Celtic, they were 2-0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Karamoko Dembele and Albian Ajeti before the English team halved the deficit through Conor Washington on 77 minutes.
