Trabzonspor breaks Super Lig record thanks to Onuachu's aerial prowess

Trabzonspor have set a new Süper Lig record for headed goals in a single season, with Nigeria international Paul Onuachu the major contributor to the landmark achievement.

According to Turkish news agency İhlas News Agency, The Claret-Blues are the new record holder for most headed goals in a single Super Lig season.

The previous record was jointly held by Trabzonspor and Besiktas who scored nineteen goals each via headers over the course of the 2014-2015 and 2017-2018 campaign respectively.

Trabzonspor have netted 58 goals in the top-flight so far this season with 34.5 percent of their goals coming from aerial duels.

A key factor in their aerial dominance is Onuachu, who leads the race for the Golden Boot with 22 goals, comprising nine headers, seven with his feet and six from the penalty spot.

Onuachu found the net with his head against Kocaelispor, Samsunspor, Rizespor, Alanyaspor, Fenerbahçe, Fatih Karagümrük, Kayserispor and Galatasaray.

The FC Ebedei product has been kept quiet in his last three matches across all competitions, failing to score against Basaksehir and Konyaspor in the league and Samsunspor in the Cup.

Onuachu's international teammate Chibuike Nwaiwu, a winter signing from Wolfsberger AC, scored three goals with his head.
