Former South Africa captain Teko Modise has criticised Ademola Lookman's finishing after the forward squandered a clear chance in Atletico Madrid's 1-1 draw against Arsenal in the first-leg semifinal of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.
Lookman, who had been a doubt before the encounter, returned to action at the Wanda Metropolitano and played the full match.
The Nigeria international missed a gilt-edged opportunity that could have seen Ateltico Madrid level matters.
In the 53rd minute, the former Atalanta forward fired from close range, but his effort went straight at David Raya, who dealt with it comfortably.
Addressing the miss during his post-match analysis on SuperSport, as monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, Modise suggested Lookman should have shown better composure in front of goal.
“He could have done better. There was a great save that was pulled. Whenever he is taking the shot from such pressure, he has to think a little quicker," Modise stated.
“I think he could have maybe chosen a better side away from the goalkeeper to force the goalkeeper to make the brilliant save.
“The shot that he had were not far off Raya to make the stop but those are the dangers that he also possesses.”
Despite the missed opportunity, Ademola Lookman has remained a key figure for Atletico Madrid since his winter move from Atalanta.
The Nigerian forward has registered two goals and two assists in seven UEFA Champions League appearances so far.
With the decisive second leg set for the Emirates Stadium, Lookman will be determined to rediscover his scoring touch as Atletico push for a place in the final.
