Manchester City's Super Falcons-eligible defender named in England squad for U17 Euros

Manchester City defender Amarachukwu Nwankwo has been named in England's Young Lionesses squad for the upcoming  UEFA Women's U17 European Championship in Northern Ireland, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Born in July 2000, Nwankwo is eligible to represent Nigeria's women national teams, including the Super Falcons, through her parents but would be required to apply for a change of sporting nationality should she opt to play for the reigning African champions in the future.

The Manchester City youth teamer is among eight defenders selected in manager Kerri Welsh’s 21-player squad.

Nwankwo featured in the qualifying rounds of the U17 Euros, coming off the bench on her competitive debut against Turkey before earning starting roles against Croatia and Italy.

England have been drawn in Group A of the 2026 U17 Euros, where they will face hosts Northern Ireland, Germany and Norway.

Nwankwo is set to become the third Nigeria-eligible player to represent England at the U17 Euros in recent years, following in the footsteps of Omotara Junaid and Jane Oboavwoduo, who both featured in the 2024 edition.

Super Falcons centre-back Ashleigh Plumptre represented England at the 2015 European U17 Championship.
