Former Leeds United striker Lucy Ward has praised Nigerian defender Ola Aina for his impressive contribution in Nottingham Forest’s 2–1 defeat to Fenerbahçe at the City Ground.
Aina started the UEFA Europa League clash on the bench but made an immediate impact after coming on at the start of the second half, replacing Murillo.
The Nigerian international played a key role in Forest’s only goal of the match, delivering a precise cross into the box in the 68th minute for Callum Hudson-Odoi, who controlled brilliantly before finishing emphatically to the delight of the home supporters.
The goal reduced the deficit after Turkish winger Kerem Aktürkoğlu had given the visitors the lead with a brace, scoring once in each half.
Speaking on TNT Sports, via BBC, Ward applauded Aina’s delivery and the overall quality of the goal.
"That is exactly what Forest needed. All of a sudden, everything changes," Ward said.
"Ola Aina has put a few really good balls in to the box and he did very well there. That first touch from Hudson-Odoi is brilliant, and what a finish as well."
Despite the defeat on the night, Nottingham Forest advanced to the next round of the competition, having secured a commanding 3–0 victory in the first leg in Turkey.
Aina has made 15 appearances across all competitions and registered one assist.
The defender, who recently returned from a long-term injury, will be eager to build on his latest performance as he works his way back to full fitness and looks to increase his attacking contributions.
