Victor Osimhen is currently in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, where he intends to spend a few days before returning to Istanbul.
One of the first names on manager Eric Chelle's team sheet, the Galatasaray striker has not been named in Nigeria's latest squad for their upcoming friendlies against Iran and Jordan
Osimhen used his time off to join a streaming session with one of Nigeria's top social media influencers, Carter Efe, where they discussed a wide range of topics.
The former African Footballer of the year opened up to Efe about the early days of his journey with the Super Eagles, recalling how Nigeria football legends served as his inspiration.
"We were watching Super Eagles matches when we were in the trenches. You hear Nwankwo Kanu, Jay-Jay Okocha, Mikel Obi. Even before I got to the Super Eagles, Ighalo was doing well for the country, and I’ve met him a couple of times," Osimhen said.
Osimhen has a mentor-mentee relationship with Ighalo and even travelled to Belgium in February 2020 to watch the then-Manchester United striker make his European debut against Club Brugge.
“He is an amazing human being, a great football player, a legend, and for me has made an impact, not only on me," the former Napoli striker added.
Osimhen also shared a touching story about former Super Eagles captain Obi Mikel's generosity during his first call-up to the national team.
"I met Mikel Obi when they first invited me to the Super Eagles. We finished eating, and he told me to follow him to his room immediately, and he gave me money."
In his early days with the Super Eagles, Osimhen shared the pitch with Mikel in two matches, against Zimbabwe and Senegal, before the Chelsea icon ended his international career in July 2019.
