Coventry head coach Frank Lampard has praised the attitude and influence of Frank Onyeka following Coventry City’s promotion to the Premier League, describing the midfielder as a vital figure in the club’s resurgence.
Onyeka, who joined the Sky Blues during the winter transfer window, played a key role in stabilising the team’s midfield en route to promotion.
The Nigeria international impressed with his ball-winning ability, positional discipline, and tireless work rate, bringing much-needed balance to the squad in the second half of the season.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Lampard highlighted Onyeka’s seamless integration into the team and his influence both on and off the pitch.
“Frank has been brilliant,” Lampard said. “He was a profile of a player we needed in that moment and he’s come in and given us everything we need, which has really helped the balance of our midfield with what Grimesy does and whoever plays in that 10, how they play."
The former Chelsea manager also commended Onyeka’s character, noting his humility despite arriving from the Premier League with international experience.
“The other thing he has offered is an incredible humility and work ethic," he added.
“He’s come in and just breezed into the squad and the dressing room and he’s come down from the Premier League as an international player and he is so humble.
“I love that and it’s good for some of our players to see what that looks like.”
The Sky Blues are expected to sign Onyeka on a permanent deal by activating the purchase option included in his loan agreement from Brentford during the winter market.
