Fulham central defender Calvin Bassey has revealed that Victor Osimhen is interested in a move to the Premier League and reckons that the Galatasaray striker is on the same level as Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland.
Osimhen had been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United, but both Premier League giants were priced out of a deal, with his wage demands and Napoli’s €75 million valuation proving major stumbling blocks.
After a breakout campaign in which the Super Eagles striker scored 37 goals in 41 appearances, he returned to Galatasaray for a second spell during the summer transfer window and has continued to deliver for both club and country this season.
Bassey lavished praise on his international teammate Osimhen, and admitted he had mixed feelings when the forward missed out on a Premier League move.
"He's unbelievable. What he does for the country, what he's done in the Champions League is amazing, a deadly striker, " Bassey said to Stadium Astro.
"I was kind of happy and upset at the same time that he didn't come to the Premier League.
"It would have been good for him, but I'm happy I don’t have to play against him.
Pressed on whether Osimhen shares his ambition of playing in England, Bassey confirmed the former Napoli striker has expressed clear interest.
"Yes, of course. He doesn't give too much away, but he said yes, he is interested in the Premier League.
"It's a good league — the most-watched league in the whole world. Most players would want to come to the Premier League, at least to experience it, but obviously he's at a massive club now and doing amazing."
Bassey previously came up against Osimhen in the UEFA Champions League during his time at Ajax Amsterdam and faces Haaland regularly in the Premier League.
In his assessment of the two centre-forwards, Bassey noted that they have exceptional traits even though they are not identical in style.
