Monaco's all-time top scorer in European competitions, Victor Ikpeba thinks Cristiano Ronaldo has been a distraction at Manchester United this season.
The Portugal icon returned for a second spell at Manchester United last summer, twelve years after he left the Old Trafford outfit to join Real Madrid.
Ronaldo's return to United came as a surprise as it seemed the striker was on his way to Manchester City, only for the Etihad outfit to cool their interest, paving the way for the Red Devils to win the race for his services.
Although the Portuguese is Manchester United's top scorer with 22 goals in all competitions, his return has not gone according to plan on the pitch with the club in danger of missing out on Champions League football and maybe the Europa League next season.
Manchester United's incoming coach Erik ten Hag will decide whether Ronaldo stays at the club for the 2022-2023 campaign.
Speaking on SuperSport's Monday Night Football monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, Ikpeba said : "I think he should be leaving the club. Ronaldo coming back to Manchester United was a mistake.
"It's not a question of him scoring goals, so many things happen when a star player returns to his original club.
"In many ways Ronaldo has been a distraction. He's a global star in football, he shouldn't have come back at that age, he should have gone to Manchester City.
"Egocentric players, jealousy comes to play in the dressing room. The atmosphere has been nasty right from the beginning."
In his first spell at Manchester United, Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games and was a Premier League winner on three occasions.
