2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer Odion Ighalo has praised Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen, describing the Galatasaray star as the type of forward every team needs.
Osimhen not only scores goals but also provides assists, with the Super Eagles’ number 9 netting four times and setting up two more at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Only Super Eagles teammate Ademola Lookman has been involved in more goals than Osimhen in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, with the Atalanta forward tallying seven goal contributions.
Ighalo noted that while Osimhen occasionally misses clear-cut chances, his overall contribution remains exceptional, as he is also instrumental in creating opportunities for his teammates.
"Like I always say, he missed a couple of big chances. He should have had, like, three goals today, but he did so well," Ighalo said on SuperSport.
"He got one goal and the assist for Osimhen. He's a striker every team needs in their team because he's not selfish.
"He works hard for the team, he provides, he scores goals, and runs at defenders, so I am happy with what I saw today, and it's going to take even a little bit more to beat Morocco."
Osimhen's goal against Algeria took his tally to 35, just two shy of equalling Rashidi Yekini’s record as Nigeria’s all-time top scorer.
