Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka praised Nigeria’s performance following their comprehensive 4-0 victory over Mozambique, which secured the team a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking after the match at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, Onyeka highlighted the team’s collective effort and focus on preparation for the next stage.
Asked for his honest opinion of the game, Onyeka said, “Honest opinion, we did well. We scored four goals. Everyone happy. I can see the smile on the faces. Everyone is happy. So, we are happy.”
His remarks reflected the positivity within the squad following a dominant performance.
The Super Eagles played their last game in Fès, and when asked whether he would miss the city, Onyeka admitted he would not, adding with a laugh, “No, it’s too cold.”
He was then asked if he had ever visited Marrakesh before, to which he replied, “No, not really.”
Looking ahead to the quarter-finals against either Algeria or DR Congo, Onyeka stressed that the team’s focus is on themselves rather than any sense of revenge.
He said, “I don’t care what opponent. We’re just focusing ourselves. That’s it.” On his fitness ahead of the next game, he confirmed, “I’m fully fit.”
Onyeka also reflected on the win against Mozambique, noting both the positives and areas for improvement.
“Happy we scored four goals against the good side. So we’re happy for the win. And so there are things which we also need to get better at. But it’s good.”
When asked about the team’s mentality heading into the quarter-finals, Onyeka emphasized consistency.
“It’s still the same. Nothing has changed. We’re still going to give everything. We know what’s at stake. We know what we need to do to get something.”
He added, “So we train very hard. We all committed and we see what happens in the quarter final.”
Onyeka acknowledged that the Mozambique match required focus and effort despite the comfortable scoreline.
“It was a difficult match. I know we scored four goals, but we had to train really well to score four goals. So, we also need to train hard to see how we can score more.”
Finally, addressing speculation about a potential rematch against DR Congo, Onyeka said, “I don’t know. We were just training, doing our thing and waiting to see who will play.”
