Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has revealed that representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) significantly boosted his confidence as he continues to settle into life at Sevilla.
Adams, who joined the Spanish side in January 2025, played a pivotal role for the Super Eagles at the biennial tournament in Morocco.
The 26-year-old striker scored two goals and registered two assists in seven appearances, helping Nigeria clinch the bronze medal after defeating Egypt on penalties in the third-place playoff.
Speaking to Marca, Adams also reflected on the confidence gained from representing Nigeria national football team at the Africa Cup of Nations.
"I think my confidence was already good. But playing in the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria was a great privilege, something I'm very grateful for," Adams was quoted as saying by Estadio Deportivo.
The forward noted that being involved throughout the tournament allowed him to gain valuable experience despite the team falling short of lifting the trophy.
"I was able to play every match and experience the whole thing. It's a shame we couldn't win the tournament, but it was a very important step in my career," he added.
Adams also expressed appreciation for the support he has received since joining Sevilla, highlighting the trust placed in him by the club’s hierarchy and coaching staff.
"I feel it from the club, the sporting director, and the coach. It's very positive. I try to work hard every day, not only to fulfill my obligations to the team, but also to fulfill my own goals and objectives. Having that confidence in me is something I'm grateful for," he said.
Adams recently ended a five-game goal drought after scoring in Sevilla’s clash against Rayo Vallecano.
However, he endured a difficult outing in the club’s latest league fixture at Camp Nou, where FC Barcelona secured a 5–2 victory over Sevilla.
