Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has hinted that Alex Iwobi could be deployed in a wing-back position for the upcoming Premier League game against Leeds United.
The Nigeria national teamer has earned plenty of plaudits for his performance as a wing-back in the 3-2 win at Fulham and the respected Italian football tactician sang his praises at Friday afternoon's press conference.
Unbeknownst to many, Iwobi has claimed that the wing-back role is not entirely new to him as he was asked to play in that position during his Arsenal days.
"I was happy about his performance [against Fulham]. He did well. He can cover that position as a full-back," Ancelotti was quoted as saying by Liverpool Echo.
"Iwobi is a good player but he needs to feel that confidence, as does everyone!
"For Alex it’s important to feel there are people that has confidence in him."
Iwobi operated as a right-wing back in the win against the Cottagers but Ancelotti has suggested that the Super Eagles star could switch flanks if required.
"We are thinking about this. Three centre-backs can be an option still, we have Niels Nkounkou who is young but has a lot of quality.
"I think Iwobi can play on the left as a wing back, in my opinion. So we will see," the Italian added.
Iwobi has tasted action in Everton's last ten games in all competitions - starting three and coming off the bench in seven.
