'If you don't believe me, just ask van Dijk' - Osimhen shares conversation with Liverpool captain after UCL clash

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has opened up about his move to Galatasaray and the unforgettable reception he received from supporters, as well as a conversation with Virgil van Dijk following a UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool.

In an exclusive interview with The Players' Tribune, the former Napoli striker reflected on the moment he departed for Turkey and the emotions surrounding his arrival.

Osimhen said, “Before stepping on the plane to Turkey, I put everything in the hands of God.”

He went on to describe the dramatic welcome he encountered upon landing, revealing the scale of support that greeted him in the early hours.

“When the flight landed, there were 3,000 Gala fans waiting for me in the middle of the night. At a private airport. They were tracking my flight! The people welcomed me with open arms. That feeling is worth more than money,” he said.

The 27-year-old explained that the passion of the club’s supporters left a lasting impression on him, noting that the atmosphere surrounding the Turkish giants exceeded expectations.

Osimhen also recounted a post-match exchange with Liverpool captain Van Dijk after a Champions League encounter between Galatasaray and the Premier League side.

According to the striker, the Liverpool captain was struck by the intensity inside the stadium.

“If you don’t believe me, just ask van Dijk. I was speaking to him after our Champions League match against Liverpool and he said, ‘Man, what kind of atmosphere is this!?’” Osimhen said.

The Galatasaray forward added that he responded candidly to the Liverpool centre-back about the unique experience of playing in Turkey.

“I said, ‘Brother, to be honest, if I never came here and someone just told me about it, I wouldn't believe it,’” he stated.
