La Liga: Sevilla coach expects big performance from Akor Adams against Villarreal

Sevilla head coach García Plaza has challenged Nigerian striker Akor Adams to play a decisive role as the Andalusian side prepare for their crucial La Liga clash against Villarreal CF on Wednesday.

Adams, who has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Sevilla, has found opportunities limited in recent weeks after being named on the bench in matches against Osasuna, Real Sociedad, and Espanyol.

Despite his reduced game time, the Nigerian forward has continued to make his impact count, most notably scoring the winning goal in Sevilla's 2-1 victory over Espanyol at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuán Stadium.

His recent performances have intensified calls for the former Montpellier striker to be restored to the starting lineup as Sevilla continue their push to finish the season strongly and secure their La Liga status.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, García Plaza stressed the importance of collective responsibility within the squad while specifically mentioning Adams among the players expected to contribute significantly.

"Everyone has to play a crucial role. Maupay, Alexis, Akor... everyone," the Sevilla coach said. "Everyone has to contribute. They all have to play quality minutes. Everyone is sacrificing themselves for this."

Adams is in line to return to the starting XI against Villarreal following the injury setback suffered by Isaac Romero, potentially handing the Nigerian another opportunity to prove his importance to the team.

The 26-year-old will be eager to seize the moment and continue his fine form as Sevilla seek a positive result in one of their most important fixtures of the campaign.

Adams has been one of Sevilla's standout performers this season, registering nine goals and four assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.
