In the ongoing Premier League match between Manchester City and Leicester City, former England international Jamie Vardy, who has scored more goals than any other Foxes player this calendar year, has been selected in attack by manager Brendan Rodgers, leaving Kelechi Iheanacho on the bench.
The Nigeria national-teamer has recaptured his best form after falling off the radar for close to a year, something which was noted by Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel in his pre-match thoughts just before the game started at the Etihad Stadium.
Schmeichel has credited Brendan Rodgers for Iheanacho's return to form, saying the Northern Irish coach passed on his playing style to the striker even when he was not getting game time.
Speaking ahead of the game shown live by SuperSport, the Dane said : "That's precisely what Brendan Rodgers has done, he likes you to play precisely to what the team is capable of and he has come in with ideas, this is how I want to play football but it doesn't have to be now, it can be in a year's time or eighteen months and not trying to make these players play in a system that they can't play in.
"I think the best example really is Kelechi Iheanacho who just suddenly appeared on the scene again, disappeared for nearly 12 months, not even featured on the bench and then comes on, assisted the equalising goal against Everton, then delivers the winning goal and then he was in the next starting line-up and he's just played really, really well. And that's because the manager knows exactly how he makes him tick and he does it.
"I am a very, very big fan of Brendan Rodgers, it's no coincidence they are second in the table or in the top four."
Former Manchester City starlet Iheanacho has scored 4 goals in 5 matches this term and has produced two assists.
