Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has pledged to personally pay the players’ bonuses if the football authorities fail to do so before Nigeria’s quarterfinal match against Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The pledge follows a dispute over unpaid bonus payments, which had earlier prompted the team to threaten to skip training and delay their flight to Marrakech for the quarterfinal fixture.
The situation also resulted in the squad not holding a training session on Wednesday.
According to reports, the players and coaching staff had not received win bonuses for Nigeria’s four victories in the tournament so far against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and a 4‑0 win over Mozambique in the round of 16.
In quotes relayed by Oluwashina Okeleji, Ndidi addressed both the training and bonus issues, saying, "I've been pushing the team to train and play the game vs Algeria. I've been doing this since the second game."
On the bonuses, he added, "I've now made a commitment to the staff & players that I'll personally pay the bonuses if the authority fail to before Saturday."
The Super Eagles arrived in Marrakech on Thursday evening to continue their preparations for the upcoming quarterfinal match against Algeria.
The team’s arrival follows the resolution of the earlier disruption, allowing the squad to resume structured preparations for the knockout-stage fixture.
