Southampton interim manager Tonda Eckert has praised Joe Aribo’s professionalism and commitment despite the midfielder’s reduced role at St Mary’s Stadium.
Aribo, who arrived from Rangers, endured a difficult start to the season, missing several matchday squads under former boss Will Still.
The Nigerian international has made just five league appearances, accumulating only 98 minutes since the campaign began in August.
However, Eckert says he has been impressed with Aribo’s attitude and physical condition since stepping in as interim manager, noting that the midfielder has been impressive when called upon.
"I am very happy with Joe,” Eckert was quoted as saying by Daily Echo after the 3-2 loss to Millwall on Saturday.
“He has been excellent every time he has come on, and he is in very good shape."
The 29-year-old, who was a regular feature for Southampton last season, will be hoping that his strong attitude and performances can help him regain a place in the starting XI.
The Nigeria international made 32 appearances and scored three goals as the Saints were relegated from the Premier League.
He will, however, be focused on rediscovering his best form to help Southampton push for promotion back to the Premier League, despite their slow start to the Championship campaign.
