'I'm very proud' - Nottingham Forest coach delighted with youngster's display after Ola Aina injury

Nottingham Forest boss Vítor Pereira has praised youngster Zach Abbott for his assured display after coming on for the injured Ola Aina during Thursday night's 1–0 win over Aston Villa in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final.

The Nigeria international picked up a knock with around 15 minutes to the end of the match, forcing youngster Zach Abbott to come on in his place.

The setback occurred just four minutes after Chris Wood had put Forest ahead from the penalty spot, much to the delight of the home supporters.

Speaking after the match, Pereira lauded the youngster's performance, commending his confidence and maturity in coping with such a high-pressure situation.

"We start to have problems with Ola Aina and we don't have a lot of solutions," Pereira said to TNT Sports.

"When you put a young player and he came with personality and play at this level, I am very proud of my players, everyone" he added.

Aina's injury will come as a significant blow to the Portuguese manager as Forest continue their campaign both domestically and in European competition.

The former Chelsea defender has played a key role under the Portuguese manager since his appointment on February 15, 2026, following the departure of Sean Dyche.
