Former Turkey U21 international Erman Toroğlu has pointed fingers at Okan Buruk over Galatasaray’s recent inconsistency following the injury to Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen sustained an arm injury during the second leg of Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool at Anfield in March, ruling him out of action at a crucial stage of the season.
In his absence, the Yellow-Reds have struggled to maintain form, managing just one win in their last three league matches.
During that period, Galatasaray suffered a 2-1 defeat to Trabzonspor, secured a 3-1 victory over Göztepe, and were held to a 1-1 draw by Kocaelispor.
In quotes relayed by Habersarikirmizi, Toroğlu criticised Buruk’s handling of the squad, suggesting the team had become overly reliant on Osimhen.
"There was Icardi, there was Osimhen, there was Okan Buruk. Now Osimhen is gone, Okan Buruk is gone. It's that simple," Toroğlu said.
"If you're stuck with just one player in such a large squad, it's your fault. Okan Buruk couldn't manage this team. Osimhen was managing you on the field."
Toroğlu also questioned Buruk’s treatment of Icardi, claiming the Argentine forward has struggled for form due to inconsistent usage.
"You tried to bring Icardi on in the 89th minute because Osimhen was there, and you alienated him. You did this, you did that, but your team just didn't perform," he added.
Osimhen has resumed training and is edging closer to a return to action before the end of the month.
The Nigeria international is expected to be fit for the clash against Fenerbahçe, with reports suggesting he could first be included in the squad for the game against Gençlerbirliği.
His return would provide a timely boost for Buruk as Galatasaray look to regain momentum in the title race after dropping valuable points in recent weeks.
