Everton came from behind to secure a win they badly needed in a Premier League clash against Arsenal at Goodison Park on
Monday night.
Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper Arthur
Okonkwo watched proceedings from the bench for the second successive
game and fellow Hale End Academy product Alex Iwobi came off the bench
to replace Anthony Gordon with three minutes left.
In a very even
first half that had few chances, Arsenal were fortunate to take the
lead through Martin Oedegaard in stoppage time, the Norwegian steering
home Tierney's cross from the left.
Richarlison twice had the
ball in the back of the net only to be faulted by VAR decisions but he
was third time lucky with the equaliser, heading home the rebound after
Demarai Gray's curling effort came off the post in the 79th minute.
In
the first minute of second half stoppage time, Gray beat two Arsenal
defenders and fired home from 20 yards out via the inside of the post to
win it for the Toffees.
Mikel Arteta's team had chances either side of Gray's winner ; Edward Nketiah with a much easier chance hit the post and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang right at the end missed the target.
Iwobi missed a glorious chance to make it 3-1, shooting straight at Ramsdale after he was played in by Richarlison.
Arsenal
remain seventh in the standings with 23 points, five more than Everton
who are 12th after their first win in nine league games.
